1. One key concept I learned in chapter 1 has to do with the idea of the evolution of new mass medium. The book states that one of the reasons beyond inventers and culture for modern mass media is “to expand military and economic control.”
2. Culture: “The symbols of expression that individuals, groups, and societies use to make sense of daily life and to articulate their values; a process that delivers the values of a society through products or other meaning- making forms.”
Sentence: I love traveling and experiencing different cultures.
3. 1. I never really thought that ancient Greek philosophers and writers had some tension do to their beliefs about how to share information and stories.
2. I never knew that the king and queen controlled the printing press licenses in early times.
3. The printing press actually allowed people to question and rely-less on their “local community, religious, political leaders for guidance and answers.”
4. Another fact I didn’t know I guess on the account I never thought about it is how some messages can be decoded differently by different people resulting in miscommunication.
5. The book says that people have a tendency to search for and reinforce an idea or belief that already existed. Meaning based off of their own feelings they will choose what a fact is, and what is not.
4. In my earlier years in High School I would play every night with my older brother. We would finish our homework so that we could devote ourselves to Halo II. We were some of the best 2 vs.2 players. We always came in the top 5 for competitions, and came one point away from winning a subway sponsorship… But we lost and life goes on.
